Lawrence August Syma passed away on August 21, 2006 in Conroe, Texas after a lengthy illness. Lawrence was known to his family and friends as Buck. He was born on September 4, 1927 in Papalote, Texas. Lawrence began his career working for The Superior Oil Company and retired from Mobil Oil in 1986 after 35 years in the industry.
His daughter, Barbara Jean Syma; parents, John and Dora Syma; sisters, Corrine Syma, Dora Syma, and Lucille Smith; and brother, John Syma, all preceded him in death. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Evelyn Syma; daughters, Karen Sue Syma, Deborah Lynn Syma, Janet Lee and husband Ronald Crow, Lenese Kay and husband David Cantrill; son, Lawrence August Syma, Jr.; grandsons, David Lee Cantrill Jr., Ronald Royce Crow II, and Matthew Lawrence Crow; granddaughter, Caitlyn Nicole Syma; sisters, Rose Smith of Sandia, Gladys and brother-in-law Sidney Hunt of Port Lavaca, and Florence Herzog of Olivia; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Severs of Memphis, Tennessee. Numerous nieces, nephews and friends also survive. Pallbearers will be David Lee Cantrill Jr., Ronald Royce Crow II, Matthew Lawrence Crow, Bo Valentine, John Hunt, and Clyde Syma.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Lighthouse Hospice, 200 River Pointe, Suite 300, Conroe, TX 77304.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Father Hubert Keely officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 5 to 9 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 p.m.
