Funeral services for Garvey Cecil Rice, 82, of Kilgore will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. Riley Pippen officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23, 2006 from 5 to 9 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Rice was born on June 5, 1924 in Hortense, Texas and passed away on August 19, 2006 in Kilgore, Texas. He served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII in Italy and Germany, earning a bronze star. He was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church of Kilgore, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virgie Louise Rice of Kilgore; daughter, Robin Weisner and husband William of Overton; sons, Garvey E. Rice and wife JoAnn of Rochester, Illinois, Robert G. Copley and wife Linda of Houston, Glenn M. Copley and wife Wanda of De Soto, Garry L. Rice and wife Ellen of Kilgore, and Grady W. Rice and wife Tammi of Bessemer, Michigan; sisters, Sue Leonard and husband John of Conroe and Paula Ann Fitzpatrick and husband Ronnie of Navasota; brothers, Jerry Rice and wife Jo Cathrine of Texarkana, Edwin Rice and wife Roxie of Huntsville, Franklin Rice and wife Leoda of Conroe, and Daniel Rice and wife Sally of Conroe; and fifteen grandchildren. Numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
