Marvin Leonard Black, 86, of Conroe went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 4, 2006. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church, Riverside, Texas with Rev. Warren Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Brooke Cemetery, Huntsville, Texas.
Mr. Black was born on January 24, 1920 in Hallsville, Texas. He graduated from Hallsville High School and attended Tarleton State College. During World War II he served three years with the U. S. Navy Seabees and was present at the Normandy landings. He and his wife of sixty-four years, Marcia (who predeceased him in April, 2006) ran a country grocery store in Tuleta, Texas, for forty years before retiring in 1991. They resided in Carolina Cove subdivision near Riverside for thirteen years where they were active members of Riverside United Methodist Church. They spent the last two years at Hearthstone Assisted Living in Conroe, Texas and had just moved in April to Park Manor Nursing Home in Conroe. He was a wonderful, gentle Christian husband and father who truly loved his family and friends. He will be truly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Paula Shepherd and husband Bob of Conroe; son, Marvin Leonard Black, Jr. and wife Nell of San Antonio; sister, Dorothy Spencer of San Antonio; grandchildren, Stacey French and husband Jason of McKinney, Laura Kirkham and husband Matt of The Woodlands, Elizabeth Rosenauer of Ft. Worth, and Brooke Rosenauer of San Antonio; and great grandson, Benjamin Kirkham.
The family would like to offer special thanks to his caregivers at Hearthstone, Park Manor, and Lighthouse Hospice.
