Virene Estes White, 82, of Conroe/The Woodlands, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2006. Mrs. White was born in Hollis, OK on February 5, 1924, to Horace and Carrie Hulse Estes. She had lived in Conroe for 41 years.
Mrs. White was an involved and dedicated member of the community all her life. She was a volunteer with the San Jacinto Council of Girl Scouts for over 20 years, serving in many positions including Cookie Chairman, Neighborhood Chairman, Camp First Aider, and as a member of the Board of Directors. She was a delegate to the Girl Scout National Convention three times and was a recipient of the “Thanks Badge”, one of the organization’s highest honors for a volunteer. Additionally, she participated and held many different offices, including President, in the Miracle City Sams camping club. Most recently, she was a founding member, former President, and current participant in the Happy Strings Band, a ministry of the First Baptist Church of Conroe.
Mrs. White is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, John L. White, her daughter Merle Trammell, her son Robin White and his wife Lynne, her grandson Clint Trammell and his wife Carlotta, her grandson Darrin Trammell and his wife Shari, her granddaughters Annie and Allison Stobbe, and her great-granddaughter Riley Trammell and great-grandson Clinton Trammell II.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday October 15, 2006 at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe. The Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Monday, October 16, 2006, at 12:30 pm at Cashner Funeral Home with Dr. Cliff Herrington officiating. Interment to follow at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be designated to the Happy Strings Band, in care of the First Baptist Church, 600 N. Main, Conroe, TX 77301.
