HELEN LOUISE UNDERWOOD, 80 OF Conroe, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2006. She fought a long and courageous battle with breast cancer and associated cancer disease. She was born October 21, 1926 to Rollin and Jessie Patton in Claremore, Oklahoma. Her parents, infant sisters, Kathleen and Mary, and three brothers, James, Robert and John, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John D. Underwood of the home, daughter Lynda Gayle (Missy) Louy and husband David and granddaughter Sarah Louise Louy of Norman, Oklahoma; son, Gary Lee Underwood and wife Jayne and grandsons, Tyler Patton Underwood and Tanner Payne Underwood of Edmond, Oklahoma; and son, Ronald David Underwood and wife Sharolyn, grandson Michael David Underwood and granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Underwood of Lafayette, Louisiana.
During their marriage, Helen and John called many cities home, including Houston; Maracaibo, Venezuela; Farmington, New Mexico; Oklahoma City; Laurel, Mississippi; Tulsa and finally, Conroe. Helen made many, many friends along the way.
Helen enjoyed life and was an avid golfer in her younger years, recording two “HOLES-IN-ONE” during her lifetime. She spent her later years enjoying Bible study, reading, needlepointing, sewing, quilting and compiling an extensive genealogy of her family. Her character exhibited Helen’s faith. Her friends and family will miss her gentle spirit, loving nature and patient disposition. Heaven will be even richer with Helen in it.
Special thanks go you to Garrett Lynch, M.D. and the Breast Care Center at Baylor College of Medicine who extended Helen’s life for another eleven years.
Also, a special thank you goes to Lighthouse Hospice for the loving care and support given to Helen and her family. Shelly and Ginger, you are the best!
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 26, 2006 in the Cashner Colonial Chapel under the direction of Cashner Funeral Home. A half-hour visitation will be held, preceding the services.
