The Lord called Velma Mildred (Williams) Goodlett to her eternal home on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at the age of 90. She passed peacefully in her home at the Park Manor Nursing Facility after being placed on hospice care. Velma was born November 5, 1916 to William “James” Williams and Minnie Cochran in Lynn, Nebraska. Velma was the youngest of sixteen children.
Velma Williams married Joseph Oliver Goodlett on October 11, 1944 and traveled extensively in his construction business. They and their two
children, Gary and Debbie settled in Conroe in 1960 permanently. Velma loved to sew and was manager of Solomon Fabrics prior to her retirement. Not one to let grass grow under her feet, she volunteered at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, continued her square dancing activities, gardened, cooked, crafted, and was a wonderful grandmother to her grandsons and great grandson. She had a heart of gold and was ready to help anyone in need. Velma and Joe were lifetime Conroe Tiger fans and seldom missed a game.
Velma was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Goodlett, son, Gary Lynn Goodlett, as well as her older brothers and sisters. Those surviving to
cherish her memory are daughter, Debbie Machala of Conroe, grandson, Wayne Machala and wife Melissa, and great grandson, Cody Machala of Montgomery, TX. Also, grandson, Andy Machala and wife, Denise of San Antonio. Daughter-in-law, Sharon Goodlett of Conroe, along with grandsons Joseph Ryan Goodlett and wife Lisa of Houston, TX, and Brandon Goodlett of Friendswood, TX. Relatives that survive are Charles and Virgie Goodlett of Colorado City, TX and Eunice and Wanda Goodlett of Dunn, TX. A host of other relatives survive across the United States.
Pallbearers will include her grandsons, Wayne Machala, Andy Machala, Ryan Goodlett, Brandon Goodlett, great grandson, Cody Machala, and in spirit, her son, Gary Lynn Goodlett.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Park Manor for the compassionate care and love that she received. Special thanks to Brenda
Burroughs and Emily with Lighthouse Hospice.
