Robert (Bob) Gordon Upton, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on Friday, April 27, 2007. Bob was born on July 16, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert George Upton and Dorothy May Rowley Upton. Bob is survived by his wife, Loretta Lucille Kaiser Upton; daughters, Darla Arter (Gary) and Lynn Peverill (William); son, Steven Upton (Katie); grandchildren, Jessalyn (Richard), Colton, Kira, Keaton, Nathan and Benjamin and sister: Judy Durim.
Bob is a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Air Force. After college, he worked as an engineer for Rocketdyne in Southern California in the early years of space exploration. After 2 years of law school, he became a patent agent and his company, Smith Tool, transferred him to Texas in 1988. He retired after 20 years of loyal service.
Bob had an enduring love of airplanes and piloted and built 2 of his own homebuilt planes. He was an expert RC airplane model builder and designer. Bob was president of many modeling clubs, the most recent being Tri-County Barnstormers RC Club in New Waverly, Texas. His love of flying was passed down to his son, Steve, who currently serves in the US Air Force in the Middle East.
Bob was cherished by his family, generous with his talent and a loyal friend to many. He will be greatly missed.
A rosary will be held 7:00 pm at the Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe on Thursday. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 am Friday, May 4, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N. Frazier in Conroe. He will have a Veteran’s Memorial Service in August and rest eternally at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
