A memorial service for Vera Holcomb Huddleston, 73, of Willis will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Conroe with Dr. Charles Walton and Rev. Hugh Durham officiating. Visitation with the family is scheduled for Friday, July 6, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
Vera Holcomb Huddleston was born June 9, 1934 in Rivera, Texas and passed away on July 4, 2007 at her home in Willis, Texas. She grew up in Artesia, New Mexico. Both she and her husband of 55 years, Jack Huddleston, graduated from Artesia High School in 1952.
Vera was a registered nurse. She got her BSN at Hendrick Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1955, and earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston. Vera was a writer of poetry, song and four books. She was active at First Baptist Church of Conroe and sang alto in a hundred-person choir. Vera’s interests included horseback riding, bridge, private flying, traveling, reading, dancing, current events, and everything else. She was a joy to all of those that knew this remarkably beautiful, brilliant, fun, and loving lady. It was a pleasure to be with Vera as she enthusiastically invested her time, attention and imagination into so many things. She leaves the world a better but sadder place.
It’s impossible to express how special she was and how much she will be missed by friends and her family: husband, Jack Huddleston of Conroe; sons, Joe Huddleston and Jim Huddleston of Austin and Jay Huddleston of Houston; daughter, Jamie H. Nelson and husband Eric of Gainesville, Georgia; eight grandchildren and one great grandson. She is also survived by two brothers, Jack Holcomb and James Holcomb and their families.
Vera has requested that any memorials be given to her beloved First Baptist Choir, 600 N. Main, Conroe, TX 77301.
