Funeral services for Emmitt Edward (Moose) Montgomery, 75, of Conroe will be held on Friday, August 24, 2007 at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Dr. Cliff Herrington and Dr. Charles Walton officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 23, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Montgomery was born November 3, 1931, in Kilgore, Texas to Emmitt Orman and Minnie Eastwood Montgomery and passed away on August 21, 2007, at his home in Conroe, Texas. His father died of tuberculosis at age 47 when Ed was 3 years old; his mother never remarried. He served his country in the U. S. Navy as a fireman from January 1949 until January 1953. Ed received the Korean Service Ribbon (2 Stars), United Nations Service Medal and the China Service Medal during his service. He had a variety of jobs and occupations during his lifetime: salesman for Woody Toy Company, salesman for Mrs. Baird’s Bread Company, owner of M & M Oil and Gas, owner of Jiffy Stop #3 (Conroe), and owner of Crystal Creek Shopping Center (Cut-n-Shoot). Ed retired in Conroe in 1997. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Conroe for 35 years. He served the community of Montgomery County in various ways and was a member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and a supporter of the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo. Ed was also an honorary member of the FAA Parbusters Golf Group.
In 1956, he married Shirley Ann Holmes Montgomery, and they shared 31 years together before her death in June, 1987. His wife of 19 years, Charlotte June Carey Montgomery of Conroe, survives him along with his children, Darrell Edward Montgomery of Houston, Susan Ann Montgomery Golden of The Woodlands, and Mark Everitt Montgomery of Lafayette, Louisiana; stepchildren, Dean Webster Carey and Susan Lois Carey Van Nostrand; grandchildren, Darrell Edward Montgomery, Jr. of Austin, Chase Steven Golden and Chelsie Ann Golden of The Woodlands, Brittney Nicole Montgomery, Weston Owen Montgomery, and Landon Mark Montgomery, all of Lafayette, Louisiana; Rebecca Honey Carey, Natalie Ann Carey, Cathryn Lois Carey, Julianne Darling Carey, and WilliamJohn Webster Carey, all of Katy.
