Adrienne Beth McDonald, 70, passed away peacefully, with family present, on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 in Conroe, Texas.
“Ady” as she was affectionately known by all her friends, fought a courageous eight year battle with emphysema over her last years. She was born on February 19, 1937 to C. Stanley and Eleanore Johnson in Evanston, Illinois. She graduated from New Trier High School, Winnetka, Illinois and went on to attend Michigan State University where she graduated in 1959 with a B.A. degree in Interior Design.
Ady’s parents preceded her in death and she is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert McDonald (whom she met in Grand Central Station, NY City); daughter, Betsy McDonald of Grand Prairie, Texas; daughter, Karin Volk and her husband Mark, and grandsons, Tyler and Brandon Volk, of Missouri City, Texas; brother, Bruce Johnson of Conroe, Texas; sister-in-law, Ethelyn Little of Victoria, BC, Canada; niece, Leslie and Steve Sprinkle of Danville, California; and nephews, Greg and Leigh Johnson of Tiburon, California, Chris and Jen Johnson of New City, New York, and Bob and Marilyn Reed of The Woodlands, Texas.
Ady loved sports and particularly golf, where she took up the game early in her youth. In Michigan, she was recognized as the top teen golfer in the state at the age of 16, and she played in numerous amateur local, state and regional golf tournaments during her lifetime. She was past Club Champion at Trenton Country Club, New Jersey and seven time Club Champion at River Plantation Country Club in Conroe, Texas. Over the years, she was very active in supporting the Junior Golf Program also at River Plantation Country Club.
Other interests in her life were traveling, reading, and watching sports program on TV. When she and Bob were fortunate to build a second home on the beach in Galveston, she took great pride in overseeing the interior design and furnishings of the beach home. In later life, she loved seeing her grandsons; they were her pride and joy.
Special thank you to Above and Beyond Assisted Living and the Lighthouse Hospice for their loving care and support given to Ady and her family.
In keeping with her request, there will be no formal service. She wished that family and friends, both near and far, remember her with prayers and remembrances.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to River Plantation Country Club – Junior Golf, 550 Country Club Drive, Conroe, TX 77302, Attn: Suzie Roberts.
