Jimmie Nell Gladden Burns passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family and friends, on Monday, August 19 in Conroe, Texas. Born on December 30, 1933, in Montrose, Arkansas, Jimmie was a longtime resident of Conroe, moving with her beloved husband, Harold, to Conroe in May of 1960.
During her life which served as a shining Christian example to others, Jimmie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, sharing her inimitable talents with all whose lives she encountered. Following her retirement as the Southern Division traffic manager for Louisiana Pacific, she "took time to smell the roses," enjoying gardening, traveling, interior design and music. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise Swayze Gladden; father, Clyde Gladden; and brother, Robert Lee Gladden. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harold; daughter Mary Elizabeth "Susie" Green and her husband, Randy Green; daughter Dlorah Llen de Vore and her husband, Martin de Vore; granddaughter, Maranda Green Seals and her husband, Brett Seals; granddaughter, Rachel Green; brother, C. C. "Buddy"
Gladden; sister, Mary Katherine Stanley and her husband Jim Stanley; sister, Ethel Joyce Ethridge and her husband, Bill Ethridge; sister, Annie Laura Hensley and her husband, Barney Hensley; close friends Bennie and Joe Choate, and multitudes of friends and relatives. An active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Conroe since 1960, Jimmie served God and her church in a variety of capacities over the years, including choir director, organist, pianist, teacher and children's church director.
Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home on Teas Road in Conroe on Wednesday, August 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, August 22, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Cashner chapel on Friday, August 23 at 2 p.m. Services will be officiated by Reverend Alvin Eaton and Reverend Lloyd Maddoux. A private interment service will take place in the Cashner Mausoleum following the memorial service.
