Joseph Oliver Goodlett
July 6, 1913 - November 18, 2002

Joseph Oliver Goodlett passed away from this life to be with the Lord on November 18, 2002. He was a family man in the truest sense. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His grandsons were a great source of pride and would always bring a smile to his face. Full of mischief, he loved to tease and be teased back.

Joe was a dedicated Conroe High school Tiger fan who had held season football tickets since the opening of the stadium in 1963. He served as a past president of the Conroe Country Cousins Square Dance Club. Mr. Goodlett was a long-time member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where he served the community in many capacities. He was President of Trustees for over 10 years and was elected as trustee emeritus in 1998.

Joseph was born July 6, 1913 in Nashville, Arkansas to Whitmore and Sena Goodlett who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two of his brothers, W.S. Goodlett and Rueben Goodlett. He was raised on a cotton farm in Dunn, Texas. Joe was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corp in 1945. He worked for Gaylord Construction Company for 36 years before retiring in 1975.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Velma Goodlett of Conroe; son, Gary and wife Sharon of Conroe; daughter, Debbie Machala of Conroe; brothers, Charles Goodlett and wife Virgie of Colorado City, Texas, and Eunice Goodlett and wife Wanda of Dunn, Texas, and special sister-in-law, Lenore Goodlett of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Machala and wife Melissa of Montgomery, Texas, Joseph Ryan Goodlett and wife Lisa of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Andrew Machala and wife Denise of Conroe, and Brandon Goodlett of Conroe; great-grandson, Cody Wayne Machala of Montgomery; and numerous other relatives also survive.

The funeral service will be held in Cashner Colonial Chapel on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Cindy Hinson officiating. Interment will be held at Conroe Memorial Park following the service. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2002 from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Joseph Goodlett's memory to the St. Paul's Methodist Church, P. O. Box 506, Conroe, Texas 77305.
