Funeral services for Elzie Dryden Alfred, 86 of Conroe, will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Pastor Russell Cravens officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. In Old Zion Cemetery, Kennard, Texas. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, January 22, 2003 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Alfred was born April 15, 1916 in the Center Hill community of Houston County, Texas to Richard and Elzora Padgett Alfred and passed away on January 20, 2003 in Conroe, Texas. He was a long-time resident of Pasadena and moved to the Conroe area following his retirement as a machinist/tool maker. He was a member of Ashbury Methodist Church of Pasadena and attended Bible Baptist Church of Conroe. A regular participant in Friendship Center-Conroe, Happy Times, and Willis Seniors Group; his friends referred to him as the "Butterfly May".
His wife, Beila Vedelia preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Jeane Crumpler and husband Jack of Willis, and Trish White and husband Mike of San Antonio; grandchildren, Gary White and wife Michelle of Pasadena, Jeanie Marie Cravens and husband Russell of Pearland, Joshua White of San Antonio, Julie Little and husband Laird of Houston, Jill Van der Werff, and husband Gerard of Conroe, and Jan Nell and husband Mike of Conroe; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Alpha Morgan of Rosenberg, Frances Kendrick of Rosenberg, and Ellena Hamlin of Lovelady; sisters-in-law, Marie Alfred of Elkhart and Edna Alfred of Jacinto City; brother-in-law, D.L. Price and wife Cleo of Rosharon; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends also survive.
