Mrs. Matthews was born on September 21, 1940 in Barclay, Texas to Joseph and Ruby Holeck and went to be with the Lord on March 4, 2003. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Matthews of Conroe; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Jon Buckholtz of Conroe; son, Troy Matthews of Spring; grandchildren, Victoria Matthews and Carter Buckholtz both of Conroe; sisters and brother-in-law, Gloria and Filton Meadows of Hewitt and Ruby Austin of Gibsonton, Florida; niece, Mary Summers of Marlin; nephews, David Holeck of Tyler and Robert Holcek of Ft. Rucker, Alabama; and special friends, Betty and Dowell Reese of Waco.

The joy of her life was her two grandchildren whom she tended each day. They all got such wonderful joy in feeding the beautiful birds and squirrels and even the crows and raccoons on a daily basis. To see these beautiful creatures and their happiness as they fed daily, one would know only God could create such beauty. Mary Ann had retired from Brookshire Brothers, Conroe after many years of work and had many friends throughout the area. She then retired to home to care for all the family. She loved to work in the yard and always kept it immaculate. She loved beautiful flowers she so eloquently grew. She was a wonderful homemaker and always kept a neat home filled with family photos. For many years she and Jim took care of their faithful dog companions, Hoot and Harley, who have gone on to animal heaven. They were laid to rest in Mary Ann's backyard and she always kept both graves neat with beautiful flowers on them.

In lieu of flowers, due to her love for animals and nature, donations may be made ot the Montgomery County Humane Society and Animal Shelter, 1016 E. Dallas, Conroe, TX 77301.
