Robert C. Bob Southard of Montgomery, Texas passed away September 4, 2003. Bob was born November 1, 1935 in Poag, Illinois to Clarence and Evelyn Southard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Norma Lynn, and his brother Warren.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, and their three children; son, Michael, and his wife, Joy, daughter, Mary Baugh, and her husband, JR, and daughter, Anne; 5 grandchildren, Shannon and her husband Deryk, Patrick, Emily, Lauren, and Zachary.
Bob graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1953 and continued his education at Missouri Chiropractic College, then at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri where he began his religious training.
As one of the founders, the first minister, and the Pastor Emeritus of April Sound Interdenominational Church, Bob both touched many lives and helped shape a community he dearly loved. He never lost his passion for ministering and bringing people to Christ.
For over 40 years Bob distinguished himself as one of the countrys prominent safety professionals. Beginning with Mississippi River Chemicals, he worked with such companies as Kroger, Cameron Iron Works, and Olin. In 1976, Bob founded Safety Resources, Inc. His innovated approach to safety management combined his integrity and professionalism and quickly earned Bob a reputation as a true pioneer in the industrial safety movement. Bob finished his career as a senior partner with the SRI Group. His commitment, passion and ideas helped to save hundreds of lives and allowed thousands of people to lead safer and more productive lives.
He loved his God, his country, his friends, his golf, and above all else his family. Nothing brought more joy to Bobs life than having his entire family gathered in his bunkhouse or out playing games in the yard. He enriched everyones life that knew him, and words cannot express how deeply he will be missed.
The family would like to extend a grateful thanks to all of Bobs friends who supported him through his courageous fight. He was a competitor to the end and made his family very proud.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2003 at the April Sound Interdenominational Church at 67 _ April Wind South, Montgomery, Texas 77356.
