Richard Wells Brown, 81, passed away in his home in The Woodlands on Friday, September 12, 2003. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 62 years Elaine Pleus Brown, along with his eight beloved children and their spouses; Kathy Miller of Spring, Valerie and Greg Gates of Desert Mt. AZ, Vern and Linda Brown of Ottawa, KS Rick Brown of Long Beach, CA, Bob and Katie Brown of The Woodlands, TX, Tom and Lorraine Brown of Traverse City MI, Becky Brown of Grayling MI, along with 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and sister, Margaret Doolittle of, Mason, MI.
Dick Brown, a veteran of WWII as a Marine Corps Master Technical Sergeant was a life-long newspaper man serving as Editor and Publisher at several weekly newspapers throughout Michigan, as well as former Editor of The Woodlands Villager. He was also a long-standing member of Rotary, Kiwanis, VFW, and a community leader. He was a Marshall/Starter for over a decade at The Woodlands Country Club, and an avid golfer. Brown was born in Leslie, MI, and raised in Mason, MI. He spent the last 20 years in The Woodlands.
At his request, a private family gathering will take place in the future at Higgins Lake in Michigan.
