Barry Mellin Hawes, 56, passed away on October 29, 2003 in Conroe, TX. He was a devoted father and grandfather and a friend and mentor to countless numbers whose lives he touched in subtle ways with his generous heart and unique personality. He loved travel, piloting small aircraft, snow skiing, and New England summers and took special interest in sharing these experiences with others.
Hawes was a graduate of East Texas State University with a master's in Psychology and Education. He served as a graduate assistant during his tenure at East Texas State. He enlisted in the Navy Seabees and served in Vietnam from 1970-71. He later returned to Texas to pursue various real estate business interests. He was instrumental in the development of the careers of hundreds of real estate professionals and was a long-time instructor of continuing education programs and community college courses. He operated several water utilities and real estate developments until the time of his death.
Hawes was preceded in death by his father, Julian Hawes and two infant grandchildren, John Barry Graham and Margery Elizabeth Graham. He is survived by his mother, Anne Mellin Hawes of Houston; a sister, Jennifer Hawes Juarez (Santiago) of Houston; brother, Julian Hawes, Jr. (Kellye) of Dallas; brother, Gregory Hawes (Donna) of Houston; spouse Betsy Hawes of Conroe; and nine nieces and nephews. The joy of his life was his daughter, Evelyn Anne Hawes Graham (Paul) and four adoring grandchildren, Andrew Julian Graham, Anne Cadman Graham, Carl Thomas Graham and Sammuel Taylor Graham of Mountain Brook, Alabama.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303.
