Lewis DeWitt Gibson
January 26, 1924 - January 8, 2004

A memorial service for Lewis “Lew” DeWitt Gibson, 79, of Arlington will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Garden Park Cemetery Chapel in the Park Mausoleum, Conroe, Texas with Rev. Hugh Myers officiating.

Lew was born on January 26, 1924 in Perryton, Texas and passed away on January 8, 2004 in Arlington, Texas. He was on the PGA Tour for over 30 years with stops on the LPGA Tour, the NIKE Tour and the Tight Lies Tour. He was a master marketer of himself and of the game of golf, which he loved so dearly. Lew was a proud holder of a U.S. Patent for a specialized piece of equipment used today in the repair of golf clubs along with Dick Weiss of Florida. He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and Korea. Recipient of the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation and a host of other medals and awards in the service of his country that he served proudly and honorably.

His daughters, Lillian and Shannon, preceded him in death. He is survived by his only son, Lewis Michael Gibson of Conroe, and his sister, Lena Mae Brillhart and husband H. C. of Perryton. Other members of his family through marriage include Dolly O’Brien of Conroe, an ex-wife and finest friend he ever had; Pat Vaselakos and Sharon Lane of Arlington; Tom and Theresa Vaselakos of Spring; Valerie Vaselakos Primacio and her husband John also of Conroe; Gregory and Christy Vaselakos of Webster and their three sons; nieces Sheri Brillhart Walsh of Amarillo, and Debbie Brillhart King and her husband Jack of Tyler; and Ann Caballero of Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the PGA Tour Charity Inc., 110 PGA Tour Blvd., Ponte Vedra Beach Florida, 32082.
