A memorial service celebrating the life of James Owen Garner, 79, of Conroe will held on Monday, February 14, 2005 at 10 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church with Rev Scott Cummings officiating.
Mr. Garner was born on October 13, 1925 in Springfield, Missouri and passed away on February 9, 2005 in Conroe, Texas. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was the boxing champion of his ship. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church for 60 plus years. He was a member of the Poinsettia Masonic Lodge #633 for 50 plus years.
James worked in the oil industry for 49 years and retired as Vice President and General Sales Manager of Drilco, a division of Smith International. He was a charter member of the three chapters of SPEBSQSA in Ventura, Bakersfield, and Oxnard, California. He was a member of the Houston Nomads Chapter. James coached many youth sports activities and was a basketball referee on many levels. He played Santa for Operation Santa Claus for many years. Everyone he met was touched by his kindness and generosity and he will be dearly missed.
James is survived by his wife, Jane Garner of Conroe; daughters, Marsha Alstot and husband Gary of Ojai, CA, Debra Weaver and husband Kirk of Willis, and Susan Bogenreif and husband Dean of Montgomery; sisters, Wandalea Green and husband Jack of Fallbrook, CA, and Sara Watson and husband Phil of Nevada; brothers, William Garner and wife Janet of Clovis, CA, and Jack Garner and wife Ann of Oak View, CA; grandchildren, Andrea Sterling of Ojai, CA, Morgan Alstot of Cayucos, CA, Erin, Brandon, and Ryan Bogenreif of Montgomery; great grandchildren, Alex and Nick Sterling of Ojai, CA, Steven Willett of Ojai, CA, and Tristan and Victoria Willett of Dallas; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Willett of Dallas. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
