A memorial service for Marguerite Byrnes, 92, of Montgomery will be held on Monday, June 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. in Montgomery United Methodist Church with Dr. Hiram Jones officiating. Rev. Andy Noel will also be officiating. Entombment in Garden Park Cemeterys Chapel in the Park Mausoleum will be held at 9 a.m. preceding the church service. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, June 19, 2005 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m.
Mrs. Byrnes was born on November 5, 1912 in the Harmony Community, now known as April Sound, and passed away on June 17, 2005 in The Woodlands, Texas. She graduated from Conroe High School as class Valedictorian and graduated college from Baylor University with a Masters Degree in Math and Education. She was a teacher for 50 years in the Houston, Conroe and Montgomery Independent School Districts Math Departments and was head of the Math Department at Conroe High School when she retired. She tutored calculus and other math courses until shortly before her death. She also worked as mathematician at Woods Hole Oceanographic Research Institute in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Marguerite was one of the founders of the Montgomery County Food Bank and was treasurer for many years. She founded the San Jacinto Bridge Club and was a life master duplicate bridge player. Mrs. Byrnes was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church and was also in their choir. She loved quilting and participated in this activity at her church and at the Montgomery County Fair.
Marguerite's husband, Major Frank W. Byrnes; her parents, Thomas Ezra and ViRena Ruth Dampier Weisinger; and thirteen brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Nina Gibson and husband Gary E. and Ann B. Hastings and husband L. E. Gene; grandchildren, L. W. Bill and J. Ken Hastings, Nina Hedrick, Gary E. Gibson Jr., Jennifer Thorpe, and Michelle Hernandez; and sixteen great grandchildren. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
