Dorothy Jean Smart
September 4, 1926 - August 19, 2005

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Smart, of Montgomery, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2005 in the First Baptist Church of Conroe, with Dr. Cliff Herrington officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2005, in the Blackburn Chapel Cemetery, Shawnee, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Rocky Wellman, Mickey Childers, Vernon Wellman, Danny Childers, Scott McShan and Dustin Childers.

Mrs. Smart was born September 4, 1926 in Moore, Oklahoma and passed away August 19, 2005 in Conroe, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Smart, son, Earl Ray Smart, parents, Edward and Clara Wellman and sister, Georgia Siler.

Dorothy retired from Civil Service after 30 years. She served on the Oklahoma Women Bowling Association and was secretary of the Shawnee Women’s Bowling Association for 25 years. She now belongs to the EGA of America. In her retirement years she spent her timeless hours enjoying her sew-and-sew group, bowling league, church services, family genealogy and card games of any kind. Dorothy will be remembered being happiest when she was helping others and spending time with family and friends. If you were a youngster and had not experienced one of her hugs, you had truly missed out. She was a stoic figure in our family that could be counted on at a moments notice. Although our family will forever miss her, we are comforted in knowing she is with the Lord and her loving husband and son.

Survivors include her sisters, Gerona Fowler and husband Howard of Shawnee, OK, and Carolyn Childers of Conroe, TX; brothers, Bert Wellman and wife Joyce of Shawnee, OK, and Gene Wellman and wife Claudia of Shawnee, OK. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends also survive.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations be to the Make A Wish Foundation.
