Funeral services for Tommy Mercer Summers, 77, of Montgomery will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Conroe with Dr. Charles Walton officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2005 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Summers was born on March 20, 1928 in Checotah, Oklahoma to John Edwin and Lola Josephine (Lair) Summers and passed away on October 17, 2005 in The Woodlands, Texas. He served in the United States Army, was a member of Shriners and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Tommy was an independent trucking contractor for many years and after retirement enjoyed fishing, gardening and his devoted family.
Tommy was preceded in death by brothers Truman L. Summers and Jack R. Summers. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Ruby (Gates) Summers, of Montgomery; sons: Mike Henderson and his wife, Patty of Nassau Bay; Gary Summers and his wife Lisa of Tarkington Prairie; sister: Mary Melton of Longview: brother: Joe Summers and his wife Sissy of League City; grandchildren: Marissa Scholl and husband Chip of Montgomery; Jamie and Katherine Henderson of Nassau Bay; great grandchildren: Ledy Kathlene and Victoria Mercer Scholl of Montgomery. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Pallbearers are Chip Scholl, Mark Marthiljohni, Wally Marthiljohni, Brent Marthiljohni, Mike Duncan and Ned Bush.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Conroe or the Montgomery County Food Bank.
Tommy was a wonderful and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was greatly respected for his fine Christian character by his friends, neighbors and associates and will be deeply missed.
