A memorial service for Joann Steakley Whitener, 63, of Paulsbo, Washington will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
She was born to EY and Lorena Steakley on January 15, 1942 in LaGrange, Texas and passed away at her home on January 2, 2006 after a long battle with lung cancer. She was raised in Conroe, Texas and graduated from Conroe High School in 1960. Joann attended Sam Houston State University and married Ron Whitener, a U.S. Navy Torpedoman, of Houston, Texas in 1962. She worked for 16 years in U.S. Navy civil service and 3 years at Prudential Northwest Realty.
She is survived by her mother, Lorena Steakley of Conroe, Texas; sister, Mary Steakley of Conroe, Texas; her former husband, Ron Whitener of League City, Texas; daughters, Tracy White and husband Dave of Bremerton, Washington, Teri Chalfant and husband Bill of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Debbie Whitener of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Jessica and Shannon White, Bryan Corbin, Danielle and Justin Chalfant, Levi and Dillon Lentz, Savannah Melgarejo, and Jacob Whitener; one great grandchild, Brooke Corbin. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
