Guy was born in Erick, Oklahoma on May 30, 1924. He spent his early years in the small farming community of Greenfield, Oklahoma. In the fifth grade he met his loving wife of 60 years, Alice Rose Smith. Childhood adventures developed into a lifelong love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener who shared many of these happy times with his wife and three children, Roby, Nancy and Tim.
A World War II veteran who survived the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, Guy used the GI bill to obtain a degree in paleontology/geology at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. Now married and with their first child, the couple moved to Maplewood, Louisiana. Numerous promotions and new employment opportunities took the family to several south Louisiana towns-Sulphur, Lake Charles, Lafayette, Mandeville and Covington. Later the family lived in London for a year and Guys position required frequent trips to the Middle East to meet with the Oil Ministers of various countries. In 1983 the family moved to Conroe, Texas, where Guy eventually took his final assignment with Rimco Oil Company as Consulting Geologist. He was a member of AAPG for many years.
Upon arrival in Conroe, Guy and Rosie joined the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church where both have served as deacons, elders and board members. An avid Old Testament scholar, Guy taught adult Sunday School classes that were loved by many. He had a special passion for the Heifer Project which he helped support by selling vegetables grown in his garden at the Montgomery County Seniors Garden. Guy loved to read a wide range of non-fiction books and had a lifelong passion for learning.
Guy is survived by his wife, Alice Rose of Conroe, his son Roby Joyce and daughter-in-law Joyce (San Antonio), his son Tim Joyce and daughter-in-law Wendy (Richardson), his daughter Nancy Joyce (Conroe) and his brother Ted Joyce (Duncanville). Guy is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Rebecca Stephens, Emily Joyce, Elizabeth Joyce, Galen Kusic, Kelly Joyce, Kori Joyce, Kyle Joyce, Steven Wright, Sarah Wright, Luke Wright, Joshua Wright and Aharon Wright.
A celebration of Guys life will be held at Conroes First Christian Church at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006 with the Reverend Wes Morgan officiating. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 5 to 8 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home. Donations in Guys memory may be made to the Heifer Project in care of the First Christian Church, 3500 N. Loop 336 West, Conroe, TX 77304.
