Funeral services for Lewis E. Walker, 91, of Willis will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. Charles Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Willis Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1, 2006 from 5 to 9 p.m. in Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Walker was born on August 26, 1914 in the Boswell area northeast of New Waverly, Texas to David G. W. and Mary Alice Pursley Walker. He grew up in New Waverly and Huntsville, Texas. Lewis served in CC Camps as a young man. He served his country in the U. S. Army with a transfer to the U. S. Air Force during WWII where he was stationed in South Hampton, England. When he was honorably discharged, he returned to Huntsville, Texas where he worked in the Boettcher Mill and began courting Jewell Elizabeth Stowe who became his wife on March 21, 1947. They were rewarded with one child, Johnny, in 1955 and a grandson, Brandon, in 1985 who survive him.
Also left to cherish his memory are his brother, Elmer Chuck Walker and sister, Betty Novak. Preceding him in death were an unnamed baby girl deceased at birth, Ada Laura, Robert Doyle, Pearl Pinkston, Knoveline Jane, and Marguerite. Mr. Walker leaves a host of friends and neighbors including special friends, Rayburn Castleschoult and John and Buck Duke. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
