A Memorial Service for James R. (Jim) Adams, 71, of Montgomery will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in First United Methodist Church, 4308 West Davis Street, Conroe, TX 77304.
Mr. Adams was born on January 8, 1935 in Fort Worth, Texas and passed away on June 26, 2006 in Montgomery, Texas. He served his country in the U. S. Army with 7 years active duty and retired from the Army Reserve as a Colonel with 22 years total service. He graduated from Texas A & M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1957.
His civilian experience has included work in the power industry, consulting engineering and serving as the Harris County Engineer from 1984 to 1989, and he was the General Manager of the San Jacinto River Authority since 1989. Jim was the Director and Past President of the Texas Water Conservation Association (TWCA), and served on the following committees of the TWCA: Policy Committee and River Authority Panel, Water Resource Development committee, Water Law committee, and Managers Council. He was also the State Water Committee Chairman of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers for more than 10 years, chairman of the Region H Water Planning Group and Clean Rivers Steering Committee since their creation, director of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District and served on the Texas Water Development Board, TCEQ Water Rights Advisory Group, HGAC Natural Resources Advisory Committee, HGAC Natural Resources Advisory Committee Policy Sub-committee, and past president of the Houston Engineering & Scientific Society. Jim served on various Chambers of Commerce and other committees and sub-committees such as Houston Partnership, Greater Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce, South Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and North Houston Association.
His father, Roy Adams, and son, Jeffrey Singleton, both preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Adams of Montgomery; mother, Imogene Adams; children, Bobby Adams and wife Marlene, Jean Byers and husband Bill, and Julie Singleton; grandchildren, Kyle, Shannon, Bobby, Randall, and Patrick. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
