Funeral services for Delbert Dick Johnson, 87, of Conroe will be held on Monday, July 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. in Cashner Colonial Chapel with Rev. Gene Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow in Copeland Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 16, 2006 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson or, Honey, as he was known to his family and friends was born on January 9, 1919 in Conroe, Texas and passed away on July 14, 2006 in Conroe, Texas. He graduated from Conroe High School in 1938 and worked for Superior Oil Company for 39 years before retiring. He enjoyed his work with cattle, hunting and fishing, well into his 80s and took great joy in listening and retelling stories about working cattle and deer hunting. He loved the great outdoors and would give his son and grandson daily reports on the deer that came to eat out of the feeder placed by his window.
Dick was a member of Mims Baptist Church for 55 years and belonged to the Mens Fellowship Sunday School Class. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren, and in their accomplishments. Dick never missed his grandchildrens athletic events throughout high school and college and attended Conroe Tiger football games until he was no longer able.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mandy Johnson of Conroe; daughter, Helen Johnson of Conroe; son, Delbert Johnson and wife Delann of Conroe; grandchildren, Paul and Julie Johnson of Conroe and Rachael and John Archer of Sparks, Nevada; great grandchildren, Reagan Archer and Lauren Archer, Jordyn Johnson, and Ryan Johnson. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Pallbearers are: F. H. Kidd, Joe Guinn, Curtis Golden, Charles John Johnson, A. B. Strozier, Keith Wiggins, Harold Robinson and Harry Hope.
